Boulder is Insane

I really have to say that though I heard Boulder was a "cool, artsy" town, I really wasn't expecting to see the general insanity that ensued on the streets this evening.  Grown adults were driving Big Wheels (that they bought at Toys 'R  Us for $10) around the pedestrian mall area...and they were wearing costumes.  If you don't believe me, look at the pictures.

A random bike man created a Big Wheels tower right next to a restaurant and then a few feet down the Pearl Street Mall, there was a veritable dance party that broke out to the beat of some bongo drums.

Something to note:  people (who seem to be a little off)  just come up to you and start talking and sort of touching you, giving you five, etc.  I'm pretty sure some of these people were on drugs.  In New York, the rule is that you just don't make eye contact and you pretend the looney tunes aren't there.. and usually both parties (the looney tune and random pedestrian)  abide by this unspoken code of conduct.  In Boulder things are much more open...and I don't think I'm ready for it.  I really wasn't expecting the whole Boulder scene, but I have to say that it's really cool to experience.

I have to admit - I think the New York way is better.

I was just thinking about my bigwheel the other day - the big thing was to get a Green Machine - my friend finally got one.

I was confused. My big wheel was way better, easier to drive, more maneuverable, etc. But I still wanted one, even after the test drive disappointment - in this way I was welcomed to the world of marketing.

I think you officially win the coolest English teacher award. Well, of the three I know anyway.

Boulder looks like the kind of place that could compete with New York's craziness on a milder day. Holy cow!

Can't wait to see what else you run into. :)
